Why is the Holy Spirit so Misunderstood?

The Devil

He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. – John 8:44 (NLT)

Jesus

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. – John 14:6 (NLT)

Holy Spirit

When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future. – John 16:13 (NLT)

The Hebrew word for Spirit: (RU’ACH – “ruwach”)) – a wind, breath, a violent exhalation, blast of breath

The Greek word for Spirit: (PNEUMA – “nu-mah”) – a current of air, blast of breath, strong breeze

The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. – John 6:63 (NKJV)

  1. Wind is UNSEEN

16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. – John 14:16-17 (NIV)

  1. Wind is UNPREDICTABLE

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” – John 3:8 (NIV)

The Person – Who He is (CONSISTENT)

The Function – What He does (UNPREDICTABLE)

  1. Wind is POWERFUL

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – Acts 1:8 (NIV)

“THE PURPOSE OF THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS TO BE A WITNESS FOR GOD”

  1. Wind is REFRESHING

9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love Him— 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by His Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (NIV)

Don’t grieve God. Don’t break His heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted. – Ephesians 4:30 (MSG)

God the Holy Spirit IS WITH ME

Interpret the Dream to Clarify the Vision - Rabbi Brian Bileci

DREAM – Chalom  -  a revelation given while asleep - NEEDS INTERPRETATION

VISION – Chazon -  a revelation given while awake - NEEDS CLARIFICATION

28 “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall DREAM DREAMS, your young men shall SEE VISIONS. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants. I will pour out My Spirit in those days. - Joel 2:28-29 (NKJV)

  1. OLDER [AND WISER] MEN are DETERMINED to see DREAMS in the FUTURE come to pass

  2. YOUNG [AND CHOSEN] MEN are ZEALOUS with VISION for the FUTURE to be fulfilled

After all of this I will pour out my Spirit on all kinds of people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your elderly will have revelatory dreams; your young men will see prophetic visions. –  Joel 2:28 (NET)

Then in those days I will pour My Spirit to all humanity; your children will boldly and prophetically speak the word of God. Your elders will dream dreams; your young warriors will see visions. - Joel 2:28 (VOICE)

THREE LEVELS OF DREAM-KILLERS

  1. DREAM-DOUBTERS - those who question your potential to disqualify your dream

  2. DREAM-DOWNERS - those who belittle your belief and talk-down your dream

  3. DREAM-DESTROYERS - those who strip you of your promise so that they kill your dream

3Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors. 4 But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, THEY HATED HIM and could not speak peaceably to him. 5 Now Joseph had a DREAM, and he told it to his brothers; and THEY HATED HIM EVEN MORE. 6 So he said to them, “Please hear this DREAM which I have DREAMED…8…So they hated him even more for his DREAMS and for his words. – Genesis 37:3-6,8 (NKJV)

Quotes:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. DREAM. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also DREAM; not only plan, but also believe.” ~ Anatole France

“No DREAMER is ever too small; no DREAM is ever too big.” – Anonymous

“Every great DREAM begins with a DREAMER. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” ~ Harriet Tubman

A DREAM without VISION becomes only a PIPE-DREAM that declines into a NIGHTMARE!

THE POWER OF DREAMS AND VISIONS:

  1. INTERPRETED DREAMS CLARIFY VISION

5  I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. 6 Therefore I issued a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. - Daniel 4:5-6 (NKJV)

Write the vision and make it plain [or clear, engraved] on tablets, that he [messenger] may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

– Habakkuk 2:2-3 (NLT)

  1. DOUBTING YOUR DREAM DESTROYS YOUR DRIVE

6 Therefore I [Nebuchadnezzar] issued a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. - Daniel 4:6 (NKJV)

DREAM: a series of thoughts, images, and emotions occurring in a person’s mind during sleep; or a state of mind in which someone is, or seems to be, unaware of their immediate surroundings, as they imagine future desire or goals.

When there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint [KJV: “perish”], but the one who keeps the law [or the Torah], blessed is he! – Proverbs 29:18 (NET)

  1. DREAMS FOCUS ON OUR FUTURE, BUT VISION ENLIGHTENS OUR STEPS TODAY

14 “For God speaks again and again, 15 in dreams, in visions of the night when deep sleep falls on men as they lie on their beds. 16 He opens their ears in times like that and gives them wisdom and instruction, 17 causing them to change their minds, and keeping them from pride, and warning them of the penalties of sin, 18 and keeping them from falling into some trap. – Job 33:14-18 (NLT)

If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what He reveals, they are most blessed. – Proverbs 29:18 (MSG)

Dreams come in STAGES, but VISION comes in STEPS
