There's been many times that I walk into my step-son’s room and I’m faced with a funky smell that makes me wonder if there is a dead animal living under his bed. He is a twelve year old growing boy so... need I say more? Instead of taking the time to clean up and clear out whatever is causing his room to smell, he goes to fetch the Febreze! A few sprays may make the room smell nice for a short period of time, but it never fails, the foul smell always returns! He could cover up the stench all he wants; but if the smelly objects continue to remain hidden in his room, the smell will only grow worse when it surfaces!

For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.
— Mark‬ ‭4:22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Isn’t that so much like our life when we keep secrets and try to cover them up!? Recently I have been dealing with some feelings of failure inside. I felt like I wasn’t doing well in any area of my life (work, marriage, parenting, pastoring, etc...) However, every time someone would ask me how I'm doing, I would spray the Febreze and say “I’m good!" But the thoughts inside continued to grow and eventually, I broke. On the way to work one day I cried in my car and begged the Lord to help me be better.

It was at that moment that I realized, I had been trying to do all of this on my own. I kept all these thoughts inside, I kept them a secret. Maybe if I would have opened my mouth and asked God to help me sooner, I wouldn’t have broken down so much. Maybe if I would have expressed this to my husband or a mentor, I would have received some great advice or encouraging words to keep me lifted up. It just so happened that I broke down in my car on Thursday morning, the same day as the Unearthed study. When I arrived I was blown away to find out that the message was on "Unearthing Secrets." God is so good and so on time!

Ladies, whether we like it or not, secrets will come to the surface. If we keep them in too long, when they come out they might stink up our character! We should share our secrets with God right away! Don’t cover it up with Febreze, lift it up to the Father!
