You Get What You Prayed For


Have you ever been on a budget? Has money been tight or are you really trying to be a good steward of what God has given to you? This is literally my life. I have been a penny-pincher and a bargain-hunter my whole life. Sometimes I gotta face it and really ask myself, "Am I just being cheap?" You know the saying "you get what you pay for". It's very true that this saying can be applied to our spiritual life too. Personally, I feel that sometimes I'm afraid of what God wants to bless me with, that I don't pray the big "get out of the boat" prayers. I'm reminded of what the Apostle Paul once said:

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
— Philippians¬†4:12¬†

This week we took communion together after a beautiful message on "A Thankful Heart" by Pastor Lissette. We looked at the life of Jesus and how He was fully invested in the calling God had for His life and even unto death, He held nothing back. Jesus had a "nevertheless" spirit and in the midst of His situation He stopped and gave thanks. Where there seemed to be a shortage of friends He stayed the path. He prayed "not my will but your will be done". 

As I took communion and sat in His presence I was moved by His spirit and really felt the weight of this walk. He reminded me that I am loved, I am enough, I am on the right path, and most of all He is with me every step of the way. This week I encourage you as you go through your devotions each day, write down everything or everyone you are thankful for, count your blessings more than you count the cost of them.
