21 Days of Prayer + Fasting

Welcome to our 21 Days of Prayer + Fasting page! From August 18th - September 8th our church will be fasting. On this site, you’ll find everything you need to join us throughout these three weeks as we kick of the year together in prayer. We believe that 2019 has been an incredible year. But as we come to the last quarter, we’re praying and believing to come into alignment with the will of God. Below you’ll find some resources from our pastors about fasting, some insightful teaching on prayer, and more.

Why Fast?

The goal of fasting is to draw nearer to God. Biblical fasting always has to do with eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose; it hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. It also enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives. Remember, your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

Types of Fasts

Complete Fast - in this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option

Selective Fast - this type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

Soul Fast - this fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in health doses at the conclusion of the fast.

Prayer + Fasting Devo

Day One // Family Breakthrough

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

So David went to Baal Perazim and defeated [struck] the Philistines there. David said, “Like a flood of water, the Lord has broken through my enemies in front of me.” So David named the place Baal Perazim [“the Lord breaks through”]. - 2 Samuel 5:20 (EXB)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Welcome to our 21-Day Family Fast! Our prayer is that over the next 21 days our families will be moved into a deeper place of prayer and study of the Bible. At Destiny, we believe that God wants to move you from where you are, to where He wants you to be. Our God is the “Lord of the Breakthrough!” Let’s believe God for breakthrough in every area of our families during this fast!

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to prepare your heart for three weeks of prayer.

  • Ask God to continue speaking to our church and our pastors.

  • Ask God to give our families a spiritual breakthrough during this time of fasting and prayer.

Day Two // Family Love

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

The love displayed in our families is what creates a healthy bond and a natural expression of God’s character and divine attributes in our daily interactions with each other. Love must be our highest goal as well as our most tenacious endeavor. Love keeps our families hopeful, faithful and steadfast. Let’s fast and pray for God’s love to be the momentum and motivation for the future of our lives.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to give you a greater love for each of your family members

  • Ask God to allow His love to freely flow through you to your family

  • Ask God to open up the heart of those family members who are disconnected from God’s love

Day Three // Family Restoration

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes. - Isaiah 58:12 (NLT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

For the next 21 days God is going to reveal the broken down areas in our households. He is going to show us the personal pain of those who are suffering in silence, as He also provides the path of healing for their restoration. Our God restores and repairs our lives the way that Israel had to rebuild the ruined cities of their Promised Land after the Babylonian exile. We will be fasting for God to restore our faith, family and finances as we come together around His faithful promises and pray for total restoration.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to give you faith for the promise of your family being restored

  • Ask God to show you the process of restoration as you believe for Him to restore what is missing or lacking

  • Ask God to abundantly provide for all of your families’ needs and future goals

Day Four // Family Blessing

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. - Genesis 12:2-3 (NIV)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

When God declared His blessing over Abraham, He increased his territory, his reputation and his influence. The Almighty blessed him to be a blessing to the whole world. His life teaches us that blessing that flows to us, should also flow through us. Let’s expand our perspective and believe God for the ability to become a blessing to those around us.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to bless your family

  • Ask God to continue blessing your finances

  • Ask God to allow His blessings to flow through you to those around you

Day Five // Family Values

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. - 1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

As we consider the things that we value the most, we must realign our priorities to value what the Father in heaven views as valuable. Our families need to be built upon a firm foundation of faith and have a set of healthy values to live by. We must pray that godliness becomes the core value that our homes are built upon, as we fast and pray for God’s Word to be fulfilled in our lives.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to reveal to you what He values most.

  • Ask God to impress godly values upon your children and family members as you embody them in your personal life.

  • Ask God to empower you to express those family values in your personal walk with the Lord, as you lead a godly life for others to follow.

Day Six // Family Affirmation

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. - Ephesians 1:3-6 (NKJV)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Affirmation is created from a sense of acceptance and feeling that someone is validated as valuable. When we think about the price that Jesus paid for us and how much He loves us, it is easy to accept the fact that we are already affirmed by God and accepted in Him. The work of the cross is a finished work that frees us from all wrath and condemnation. The free gift of eternal life makes us fully worthy of His grace and affirmed in His love. We pray that all of our family comes into the revelation that they are affirmed and accepted in the Father’s love.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to reveal His deep love for you as you walk in His divine affirmation

  • Ask God for a greater understanding of sonship and what it means to be His child

  • Ask God to empower you and your family to live lives that are holy and blameless in His love

Day Seven // Family Resilience

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

Don’t interfere with good people’s lives; don’t try to get the best of them. No matter how many times you trip them up, God-loyal people don’t stay down long; Soon they’re up on their feet, while the wicked end up flat on their faces. - Proverbs 24:16 (MSG)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Problems come to show us that God is the ultimate problem-solver, as well as showing us that we are stronger than any stumbling block that may come our way. Our ability to rise above every difficulty strengthens our resilience and capacity to recover quickly from sudden tragedies that try to hinder us. Our families, especially our sons and daughters, need to know that they too can overcome any obstacle that attempts to stop them from fulfilling their God-given purpose and making a difference in the world around them. Let’s pray for resilience and deep inner strength for our families to conquer any foe that sets out to defeat them.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to give you a personal resilience and an overcoming strength to defeat the enemy’s strategy that he has planned against you.

  • Ask God to strengthen your family with the resilience to rise above every difficult challenge.

  • Ask God to strengthen our church family as we fast and pray for a resilience and endurance to finish the year strong.

Day Eight // Family Promises

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

As a result of this, he has given you magnificent promises that are beyond all price, so that through the power of these tremendous promises you can experience partnership with the divine nature, by which you have escaped the corrupt desires that are of the world. - 2 Peter 1:4 (TPT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Our God is a God of Promise and Covenant. He made promises to Abraham and to all his descendants, and He still makes promises to us through His Son. In Christ, the Messiah, all the promises of God are “yes” and “amen.” These precious promises empower God’s people to go beyond their personal limits as they partner with God’s divine power and nature. Let’s pray for divine intervention and fast to experience the fulfillment of all of God’s promises for our families and communities.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to fulfill His promises in your personal life.

  • Ask God to impart His divine nature into your family as you fast and pray.

  • Ask God to give you the power to trust His Word in a greater capacity, so that your family will develop faith in His promises.

Day Nine // Family Vision

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

Where there is no vision [no revelation of God and His word], the people are unrestrained; But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law [of God]. - Proverbs 29:18 (AMP)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Without vision people perish, and without a revelation people will cast off restraint. Vision is the safest boundary for a life of success and fulfillment. It gives you insight for the present, hindsight from the past, and foresight for the future. If we pray for family vision, God will prepare our hearts and minds for the many blessings He wants to bestow upon us. This fast will provide clear vision for each member of our family, God’s plan for their lives, and what role we must play in their growth and development. Let’s pray for God to reveal the vision He has in store for our families and future.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to give you a vision for the outcome of your fast.

  • Ask God to open your eyes and family members to the potential changes that can take place when we focus with clear vision during this 21 day fast.

  • Ask God to give your family a vision for their future and what they must do to allow it to come to pass.

Day Ten // Family Honor

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

1 Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. 2 “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: 3 If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. - Ephesians 6:1-4 (NLT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Honor is the currency of God’s kingdom and is what elevates us in His economy. When we choose to honor God, He, in turn, chooses to honor us. Whether we are honoring our parents, or honoring the Lord with the firstfruits of our income, our motive and focus is always the same. We honor others above ourselves. We should pray for a greater understanding of honor and how we can show more honor to those around us. This will make our families more united and connected, as we show respect for one another and honor those who deserve to be honored.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to give you a greater sense of honor for leadership.

  • Ask God to fill your heart with honor for Him and His people.

  • Ask God to establish a culture of honor in your heart, your home and your church family.

Day Eleven // Family Holiness

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

In every relationship be swift to choose peace over competition, and run swiftly toward holiness, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. - Hebrews 12:14 (TPT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

We strive to be a church family that is honoring, humble and holy. Holiness is the glue that holds together our faith, family and our future. We should “run swiftly towards it” and desire to see Him in the beauty of His holiness. He is altogether separate and beyond our wildest dreams or imagination. Our aim is to live lives that are impacted by His presence as we display His divine attributes and shine the light of His permeating glory. Our families should strive to embody the holiness of God, as we embrace the life that He intends for us to experience. Let this fast cause you to have a deep hunger for more of God’s holiness and strive to draw closer to Him as you pray to be consecrated to His will.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to give you a revelation of His holiness and you pray and fast.

  • Ask God to give your family a spiritual hunger for God’s holy presence and power, as you come together during this family fast.

  • Ask God to strengthen the relationships within your family as you encourage one another to live set-apart lives that glorify God.

Day Twelve // Family Wisdom

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. - James 1:5-6 (NLT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Wisdom is given by God on demand. When we ask for wisdom, our Father in heaven has promised to give it to us. As long as we ask in faith, believing that His wisdom will be imparted to those who desire it, nothing will be withheld from those who seek Him. These 21 days will help us to focus on His Word, so that we can have a greater understanding of His will. We must not waver in our pursuit of His wisdom, or become divided in our priorities to attain His counsel. Let’s pray and fast for supernatural wisdom that has the power to change our circumstances as we apply its principles. If we ask for God’s wisdom for our families we should trust and believe that He will provide it for us.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to provide wisdom for all of your future decisions.

  • Ask God to fill our children with wisdom and insight for this new school year.

  • Ask God to give our parents, pastors, school teachers and political leaders, wisdom for our communities so that our families will thrive and flourish.

Day Thirteen // Family Fruitfulness

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

4 So you must remain in life-union with me, for I remain in life-union with you. For as a branch severed from the vine will not bear fruit, so your life will be fruitless unless you live your life intimately joined to mine. 5 “I am the sprouting vine and you’re my branches. As you live in union with me as your source, fruitfulness will stream from within you—but when you live separated from me you are powerless. - John 15:4-5 (TPT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

When God created the world and made humanity from the dust of the earth, He commanded the man and woman who were formed by his hands to “be fruitful and multiply.” The land was fruitful, the trees were fruitful, and even the livestock abundantly multiplied. While all of this fruitfulness pleased the Creator, His ultimate joy was expressed when the man He shaped into a vessel, began to replenish the earth and fill it with His glory. Our families have the same mandate. We want our children to be blessed from the womb, as they grow into adulthood, and blossom like flourishing tree branches. We pray for family fruitfulness, that will enrich our homes spiritually and increase our potential capacity. Let’s stay connected to Jesus and remain in Him, so that “fruitfulness will stream from within us.”

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God for fruitful outcomes in all of your endeavors

  • Ask God to increase the fruitfulness of your influence so that you will have long-lasting results.

  • Ask God to give your family a fruitful year of abundance, as we stay faithful in our union with the Father, through His Son.

Day Fourteen // Family Abundance

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and delight yourself in abundance. - Isaiah 55:2 (NASB)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

The prophet Isaiah reminds us that our lives were not meant for lack, but instead, God wanted us to “delight ourselves in abundance.” If we listen carefully to His voice, and seek His will and not our own, He will reveal His plan for our families to live in total abundance. Let’s stop spending excess money on things that only satisfy our flesh, and rather, depend on the Spirit’s abundance, as we trust our God to supply every need. It is time to fast and pray, so that we can hear His voice and walk in divine provision.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to provide supernaturally during this family fast as you listen carefully to His Word

  • Ask God to supply every need of your family and to satisfy them with His goodness

  • Ask God to equip your family with every necessary tool and resource that they need to succeed and prosper in life.

Day Fifteen // Family Favor

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

32 “Now therefore, listen to me, my children, for blessed are those who keep my ways. 33 Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it. 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. 35 For whoever finds me finds life, and obtains favor from the Lord. - Proverbs 8:32-35 (NKJV)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Favor from God can change our future and totally restructure our families. As we listen to the Word of God, and glean from its rich fields, our homes become blessed and we begin to experience the favor of God. Favor attracts blessings in your life, and can even change the perspective of your daily viewpoints. We begin to look for open doors that no man has the power to close, and we expect for God’s goodness to come our way. As we walk in His ways, and daily wait for His wisdom, our faith becomes fixed, our finances overflow with plenty, and our families are infused with divine favor from God and our future becomes focused with fulfillment.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to favor you every day so that you can fulfill His plan.

  • Ask God to open doors that no man can close, as the favor of God goes before you.

  • Ask God to favor your family’s abundant resources and trust that He will fulfill His Word during this time of fasting and prayer.

Day Sixteen // Family Trust

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. - Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Trust is what empowers every relationship to endure tragedy and overcome adversity. When we trust the Lord with all of our hearts, we leave no room for doubt to creep in or misdirect our faith. Every promise in the Word of God is focused on our faithful trust and covenant relationship we have in Him, and it guides our lives down the right paths. Disloyalty or lack of trust is what actually erodes our relationships and misguides our aim. This fast has the power to redirect us from the selfish choices we find ourselves making, so that we can put our total trust in the Lord.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to for greater trust in His Word as He directs your life in the right path.

  • Ask God to continue using our pastors and leadership, as we trust that our families are planted in the right church home.

  • Ask God to increase your family’s trust in God as you continue to fast and pray.

Day Seventeen // Family Peace

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! - Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Peace can be seen as the absence of war, but more importantly, it is the existence of faith in a Living God. God will supply us with a double portion of peace when we choose to keep our minds and thoughts focused on Him. The text uses the phrase, “perfect peace,” to translate the double reference of the word “shalom” to describe the peace of God. In other words, the Hebrew text of this verse has “shalom, shalom,” which is peace multiplied to a double portion. This lets us know that the Lord desires that we have both peace of mind and peace of heart. Nothing should be able to make us worry or be anxious if we just fix our thoughts on the Lord and His Word. Let’s pray and fast for our families to experience God’s perfect peace every day, as we read and trust what He has spoken.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to give you a double portion of peace today.

  • Ask God to immerse your whole family in peace so that it changes the atmosphere in your home with the presence of God.

  • Ask God to establish the “Prince of Peace” in your hearts and over your minds, and your entire household.

Day Eighteen // Family Joy

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

2 See, God has come to rescue me; I will trust in Him and not be afraid, for the Eternal, indeed, the Eternal is my strength and my song. My very own God has rescued me. God has given His people a new surety and confidence, a new sense of purpose, strength, and determination. 3 With joy in each step, you will drink deeply from the springs of salvation. - Isaiah 12:2-3 (VOICE)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

What is life without joy, and what is family without a spirit of gladness in our daily lives. Routine wants to rob us from experiencing the “joy of the Lord, which is our strength.” So we must seek the Lord daily, because in His presence there is fullness of joy. This kind of joy is unspeakable, unending and full of glory. It overflows from a heart of gratitude who rejoices in the God of our salvation. He has saved us and rescues us from sin, death and even danger. How can we not praise the Lord for all that He has done. Let’s get our joy back during this fast, so that our families will experience our overflow and desire to drink from its rich well.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to restore your joy back in serving Him.

  • Ask God to fill your family members with an overwhelming sense of joy and gladness.

  • Ask God to remove any fear or doubt that you have in His plan, and let Him replace it with renewed joy for your future.

Day Nineteen // Family Faith

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

He answered, “Because of your little faith [your lack of trust and confidence in the power of God]; for I assure you and most solemnly say to you, if you have [living] faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and [if it is God’s will] it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. - Matthew 17:20 (AMP)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

This fast was strategically planned to bring your family around the Word of God through prayer and fasting. We called it a “family fast” because we believe that God wants the faith of your family to grow and increase. Each day has been building our belief system in God’s plan, as it takes us from “little faith,” to “great faith.” Our lack of trust and confidence in the power of God becomes replaced with overcoming faith that can remove any wall, barrier or obstacle. Let’s ask God to move out any mountain of hindrance out of our way, as we put our faith back into the God who can do the impossible.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to increase your faith level and capacity to trust Him with everything.

  • Ask God to continue to build your family’s faith as you read the Word of God together.

  • Ask God to give you faith for future ideas, projects, business endeavors and family goals.

Day Twenty // Family Salvation

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

They answered, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved—you and all your family. - Acts 16:31 (TPT)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

Some spiritual battles are won only through prayer and fasting. The tenacious focus we acquire during a fast enables us to pray without distractions or restrictions. One of the number one battles that we all hope to overcome is the resistance that our families often show towards the gospel. We pray that our message of salvation penetrates their hearts as they surrender totally to His sovereignty. We must believe that the God of our salvation has a plan to save our family members also. Let’s pray for shackles to be shattered, scales to be removed, bondages to be broken and lives to be transformed!

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to save your family and to set them free from bondage.

  • Ask God to increase the example and influence you have to share your testimony as you believe for their salvation.

  • Ask God to add more lives to our local churches and campuses as they are saved and planted in the House of the Lord.

Day Twenty-one // Family Freedom

DIVINE DIRECTIVE:

So if the Son sets you free from sin, then become a true son and be unquestionably free! - John 8:36 (EXB)

INSPIRED INITIATIVE:

When God freed Israel from Pharaoh and liberated them from Egypt’s cruel bondage, he was painting a picture for the world to see. Abraham’s descendants were saved by “the blood of the lamb,” just like we must be saved by the blood of the Spotless Lamb of God. Our Savior wants to set our whole household free, exactly like He released the House of Israel from the save chains that had them bound. We must pray and fast for our family’s freedom. We must ask our Heavenly Father to set all the captives free as we declare our “family freedom.”

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Ask God to allow you to walk in total freedom as a result of this fast.

  • Ask God to free all of your family members as you declare their freedom daily.

  • Ask God to liberate those in our congregations that struggle with living completely free and need a breakthrough of divine intervention.
