WHO IS JESUS?
Our understanding of Jesus is extremely important and foundational to our walk through this life. As Christians, we believe Jesus is the example that we are to model and mirror if we are to see our lives flourish. When we misunderstand who Christ is, we miss the very essence of why God created us. When we consider our lives without God, we are left with a daunting feeling that there must be more. There must be a reason that we are here, and there must be a purpose for us while we're here.
From the beginning God formed us in His image, we looked liked Him, thought like Him, even spoke like Him. But when sin entered this world, we lost that image. What God had formed, sin deformed. This is why Jesus was sent to earth; to transform us. His love and amazing grace points to who He really is.
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” (Colossians 1:15)
You may see Jesus as a historical figure, a social activist, or even just a great teacher. According to the Scriptures, He is much more than that. He is God in the flesh. Sometimes we believe that we can be good by what we do, but the Gospel teaches we are good by what Jesus has done. Jesus is the Savior of the world. He doesn't only save us from our problems, He also saves us from ourselves. When we were far from God, when the penalty of our sin kept us from looking like our Heavenly Father, Jesus came to justify us.
This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. John 3:16 MSG
After reading this, one might ask the question "what must I do to be saved?" According to the Scriptures it starts with recognizing who Jesus really is. “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6). Once we recognize that Jesus is our only way to salvation, we must then believe and confess that He is who He says He is. "Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)
Do you believe that there's more to this life? Are you tired of trying to figure things out on your own? If so, look no further than Jesus. Chances are you've surrendered to other things before and been let down. Right here, right now, you can surrender your life to Jesus and you'll never be the same. Simply repeat this prayer:
Heavenly Father, I recognize that I have sinned but thank you for your Son Jesus. I believe that He died for me, so that I can live for Him. I believe that He rose from the dead, so I too can rise. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and now He is the Lord of my life. Thank You for saving me, and moving me to where I need to be. In Jesus' name, Amen.
